David
Corless-Smith qualified as a dentist in 1988 from Liverpool
University and was in general dental practice for 10
years. He obtained a masters degree in law from University
College London in 1991 and was called to the Bar by Inner
Temple in 1992. He had a broad criminal and civil practice
as a barrister for a number of years before qualifying
as a solicitor in 1998. Since then David has specialised
in clinical negligence claims against dentists and doctors.
In 2000 David with Greg Waldron founded the Dental Law
Partnership, the first law firm in the country to act exclusively
for patients in claims against dentists, and now the leading
claimant firm in this area of legal expertise. |
David
has written extensively on dento-legal matters and has
authored a chapter on consent to dental treatment in
a leading textbook on dental law and ethics. He was the
founding President of the UK Dental Law and Ethics Forum. |
David’s
partner is a practising dental hygienist and she keeps
him firmly grounded in the realities of dental practice
today. In his life outside of the office David enjoys
taking the dog on long walks in the country and mountain
biking and motorbiking. Sometimes he will even sit in
the garden and read a bit of fiction. |
David
is particularly proud that the Dental Law Partnership
has pioneered the use of conditional fee agreements,
which have allowed patients to bring meritorious claims
that they would not otherwise have been able to pursue
without serious financial risk. He says, ‘now for
the first time dental patients can obtain the compensation
they deserve without the fear of legal costs’. |
